CSM celebrates its 90-year history with its first hall of fame class
CSM Athletics Hall of Fame Weekend (all events on campus) – schedule:
Friday, September 23:
2:00 pm – Hall of Fame Water Polo Game, Santa Rosa JC at CSM
4:00 pm – Ribbon Cutting at Hall of Fame Plaza (open to public)
4:45 pm – No host cocktail hour and silent auction, Bayview Room, College Center
6:00 pm – Hall of Fame enshrinement ceremony and dinner, Bayview Room, College Center.
Saturday, September 24:
1:00 pm – Hall of Fame Football Game, West Valley at CSM; inductees to be introduced at halftime.

Football Players (4 players with 13 Super Bowl rings):
Bill Walsh – CSM quarterback; won 3 Super Bowls as 49ers coach; has 2 dozen NFL head coaches on his coaching tree; won 3 bowl games as Stanford coach.
John Madden — CSM football player; JC and Super Bowl winning coach; in Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Bill Ring – all-conference CSM player; 2 Super Bowl rings with 49ers (& Eshmont Award winner).
Neal Dahlen — CSM all-star QB and coach, has record seven Super Bowl rings with 49ers (5) and Broncos (2) including as GM.
Football Coaches:
Murius McFadden – 40-year CSM coach (3 sports) and administrator; had 2 state champion football teams.
Herb Hudson — coach of inductees Bill Walsh, John Madden, John Noce in 32-year CSM career; also athletic director and dean.
Bill Dickey – JC All-America player at CSM; head coach & associated with CSM for 56 years; college and professional coach.
Ted Tollner – CSM head coach; head coach at USC (winning Rose Bowl) & San Diego State; NFL offensive coach
Tom Martinez – winningest California Community College coach (1,400 wins in football, women’s basketball and softball); mentor to NFL quarterbacks.
Olympians:
Archie Williams — 1936 Olympic 400 meter gold medalist (& teammate of Jesse Owens); 440 yard world record breaker.
Nicole Carroll-Lewis – state javelin champion; 1996 USA Olympian; USA National and Olympic Trials champion.
Softball Star:
Jenny Freeman — 2-time all-NorCal and all-state player, Northern California MVP for Coach Tom Martinez.
Basketball Coaches:
Jack Avina — first CSM basketball coach at College Heights; Division I coach at Portland; international coach; former JC player (expects to have a half dozen of his players from the ‘60’s in attendance)
Ray Balsley – CSM basketball coach 1946-1959 (winning pct. near .600 and won 2 conf. titles); as golf coach won CSM’s only state team championship and six individual state titles.
Baseball Coach:
John Noce — first CSM baseball coach at College Heights; record 771 wins; international coach.
Track Coach:
Bob Rush – cross country & track hall of fame coach; inventor; Crystal Springs course developer; announcer.
HOF M.C.: New Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame selection Hal Ramey of KCBS will serve as Master of Ceremonies for College of San Mateo’s first Athletics Hall of Fame enshrinement dinner on Friday, September 23.
